Alogny is a small, romantic castle that looks out across the valley of the river Creuse from a hilltop site that has been sacred site for at least ten thousand years.  Comfortable, with all modern conveniences, including under-floor central heating, it fully maintains its medieval ambience, with massive fireplace, large rooms with beamed ceilings and a great spiral stone staircase..  The castle is surrounded by tranquil gardens with many hiden arbors, that include a large solar-heated swimming pool with panoramic views.  Built originally in the Eleventh Century, the castle was home to the d’Alogny family for many centuries, who were among the most important nobility of the Poitou.  Today, much reduced in size from its pre-revolutionary glory, parts of the building date from the Fourteenth Century, with the new wing completed in the Sixteenth Century.

Please see www.alogny.com for more details on the Chateau dAlogny.

The surrounding countryside is famous for both its Stone Age remains an its medieval and Renaissance castles.  A stone age menir (standing stone) is present on the front lawn and marks it as a sacred site for thousands of years. The area is awash with fields of sunflowers, rolling hills and timeless villages, including Angles-sur-l’Anglin, named one of the most beautiful villages in all of France.  Throughout the year there are endless cycles of festivals, concerts, local fairs and celebrations of all sorts.
